SQ Black Shed Restaurant- Decision deferred for Site Visit 29th 10.30am

At Thursday’s planning meeting, a decision was deferred until councillors had conducted a visit to Standard Quay. See this film for reactions after the meeting, with thanks to Richard Fleury;

Anybody can attend and those who submitted comments will have received notice from Swale. However, to be effective, it is important that a limited number of informed representatives with prepared statements need to take the lead. It is also equally important to try to ensure that as many councillors as possible  attend, especially those who are not from Faversham.

So, an email to all the Planning Committee members saying it’s important to make the effort to go and see the Quay, and visualise it, not just as it is now but how it was until two years ago, and can be again. Give a link to the The Quay film, and ask them to look at it, and at this website.   Email addresses:

  1. PERHAPS YOU CAN PERSUADE THE PLANNING COMMITTEE TO COME TO HYTHE QUAY AT MALDON AND SEE WHAT STANDARD QUAY CAN BE LIKE AGAIN! THEY CAN ALSO SEE MY BARGE WYVENHOE WHICH IS ACTUALLY ONE OF THE SHIPS BUILT IN FAVERSHAM CREEK . SHE WAS 99% REBUILT THERE IN 1948 SO IS A CLASSIC PRESERVED EXAMPLE OF FAVERSHAM SHIP BUILDERS SKILLS.

  2. Fine idea – but getting them to look at some photos and a bit of film is likely to be more practical. Is there anything suitable to hand – on YouTube for example?

    Another reasonably practical idea might be to persuade them to visit Hollowshore to see where the floating drydocks are now situated…

  3. Martin ~ Visit Kent are supporting the restaurant rather than the maritime heritage. Would it be possible for you to send a quick email to them about Maldon? The relevant people are: alanna.kite@visitkent.co.uk; ruth.wood@kent.gov.uk. sandra.matthewsmarsh@visitkent.co.uk

  4. You may have seen this weeks Faversham Times (April 18th, page 4) making a big thing of Visit Kent’s support for the application, as far as I know the only organisation to have supported it in planning comments. I’ve replied to them. If you’re interested, you can see my email with their short and unsatisfactory reply in the comments at http://visionsofacreek.wordpress.com/2013/04/03/standard-quay-planning-application/

    I’d suggest that the more dissent they receive, and publicly, the better, including perhaps letters or emails replying to the Faversham Times.
