Heritage Harbours

Faversham & Oare Heritage Harbours

Faversham & Oare Creeks, with their adjacent communities and coastal landscape, was one of the first three UK Heritage Harbours to be nominated.

Heritage Harbours are a network of maritime centres developed by National Historic Ships, the Maritime Heritage Trust and Historic England to help safeguard and conserve our most historic locations with the buildings, quays, shipyards, and environments that make them special. These are the places on the coast and inland where you can see traditional ships and boats still in operation and the buildings, facilities and people that make that possible.

The concept of the Heritage Harbour has already been adopted by historic ports in Holland, Belgium and Germany to promote and preserve a local maritime heritage of boats, sites and buildings and the natural landscape, combined with support for local businesses and residents. Attracting more visitors to these historic areas is an important objective.

The Faversham & Oare Heritage Harbour Group shares many of the objectives of the Faversham Creek Trust in protecting, supporting and developing both Creeks. The Trust is pleased to host this connection to both the local group and the national movement.
